As more schools begin to safely reopen, North Suburban Pediatrics remains committed to meeting the needs of our patients and families throughout the pandemic. We continue to offer PCR-based COVID throat swabs, with results typically available within 48 hours of collection. COVID testing by PCR method remains the most accurate test for evaluation of COVID in children.
Test collection may be performed for any indication including illness, COVID exposure, or for clearance for return to school or activities. Additionally, parents whose children require a test may schedule their own COVID test collection with us at the same time.
If your child has symptoms of a COVID-compatible illness (see below), a doctor’s visit may still be necessary in addition to COVID test collection.
Please call either office to schedule. We have designated times of day when these tests are collected – typically this is lunchtime and end-of-office hours on weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Test spots are limited each day so be sure to call as early in the day as possible.
As always, with any COVID-related concerns, our medical team is able to assist you with a virtual visit through telehealth, phone call or in-person office visit as appropriate.
As a reminder, COVID-19 symptoms include:

- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
